Association between Type 1 Diabetes and Coeliac Disease
Coeliac disease is more common in people with certain other autoimmune diseases, such as Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). One study found that in approximately 90% of patients the diabetes is diagnosed prior to the diagnosis of coeliac disease1. Undetected coeliac disease may present as poor diabetic control, and growth failure in children, or recurrent episodes of hypoglycaemia2,3.
