History

1922

Local Innsbruck doctor, Dr A Schär, and Bolzano-based entrepreneur, Untertrifaller, market healthy food products for infants for the first time under the brand name Dr Schär. The main focus of the product range remained the same until 1972.

1982

For the first time, the Dr Schär company launches gluten-free dietary products onto the market under the management of the Merano-based businessman Ulrich Ladurner. This year also marked the start of close cooperation with doctors and coeliac organisations. The range of products is further expanded to become a completely gluten-free product offering.

1985

The Dr Schär company aims to become the leading manufacturer of gluten-free foods in Italy. Product innovation, improvements in qualilty, new technology and production facilities prepares the company for the 1990's.

1990

Dr Schär becomes the leading gluten-free manufacturer in Italy. The company prepares to enter the European market in other countries including Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Belguim, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Subsidaries are founded in Spain and France.

1996

Following the establishment of the company in Europe, the company strived to become the leading European manufacturer of gluten-free products. Product innovation and improvements in quality of the products is achieved. Production and operational areas of the company are expanded.

1998

Quality becomes a key aim of Dr Schär. Intensive research and development results in a new and improved taste for the range of products. Sensory evaluation and safety remains of the utmost importance.

2002

Dr Schär begins its collaboration with the UK company, Nutrition Point; the Dietary Specials (DS) brand becomes the leading range of gluten-free foods in the retail environment in England. Innovative staple foods, convenience products and a range of frozen meals solutions helps Dietary Specials to become the leading retail brand.

2003

Dr Schär opens its research lab in the AREA Science Park in Trieste, Italy, one of the leading research centres in Europe. This step enables Dr Schär to develop new product ideas and utilise new methods in research and production to adapt product quality and product attributes to the changing needs of its consumers.

2004

Dr Schär products become available in Eastern European countires including Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

2006

Dr Schär expands its production facilities with the purcahse and construction of two new dedicated gluten-free sites in Germany.  New, innovative product ideas for the biscuit range are being put into practice at the factory in Dreihausen, Various types of gluten-free bread are made at the modern production site in Apolda, utilising sophisticated manufacturing processes.

2007

With the acquisition of the brands, Glutafin and Trufree, Dr Schär strengthen the company's position in the UK and continues to expand its range of gluten-free foods. In 2007, the establishment of Schär USA, with offices in New York, also took place.
